a man pointing

he has the power, the power to point

first things first:

PowerPoint is a visual aid. The idea is that what's on the handy screen helps the audience both understand and remember more clearly what the speaker is on about.

Cue cards are a memory aid. The idea is that what's on your handy bullet-pointed cards helps the speaker (yes, you) understand and remember more clearly what the speaker (still you) is on about.

Mull that over for a moment as it's an important point. Go on, read it again.

The thing is, bullet points aren't actually compulsory. Not sure what else to do? Get us in for a free one hour interactive presentation full to bursting with tips (only in the Adelaide area sorry).

top 5 tips

1. Inserting images? Keep file sizes down by getting the image the right size then cut, edit->paste special->jpg or png.

2. Inherited a ppt? Format->replace fonts to tidy things up.

3. Add the alignment buttons to your drawing toolbar or QAT.

4. Learn how to set up a projector (even if you normally have an I.T. geek to hand). It's not that hard and it could save you time & embarrassment.

4½. Don't put your cue cards on the screen (Mrs Worthington). If people try to listen & read they take in less than if they listen OR read. There have been proper scientific studies and everything.

5. Fail to prepare and prepare to fail. Practice. Lots. Out loud.
